Payne #22 — Ps 132:11
Bodily descendant of David placed on the throne; Payne connects the oath-formula here to the unbreakable permanence of the Davidic covenant
This lesson explores how Psalm 132:11 connects to Jesus.
The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: 'One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.'
But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.
Payne #22 — Ps 132:11
Bodily descendant of David placed on the throne; Payne connects the oath-formula here to the unbreakable permanence of the Davidic covenant
Psalm 132 affirms the unconditional nature of the Davidic covenant — God swore an oath that David's bodily descendant would occupy his throne. Peter at Pentecost declared that Jesus' resurrection fulfilled this oath, establishing the Davidic heir on an eternal throne beyond the reach of death.
Jesus, Son of David, Son of Abraham — through Throne of His Body, deepen my trust in the faithfulness of God across generations.
