J. Barton Payne
Payne #21 — Ps 118:26
Blessed is He who comes in the LORD's name; Payne notes the Hallel psalm was the Passover processional, making the Palm Sunday crowd's use of it a conscious messianic declaration
This lesson explores how Psalm 118:26 connects to Jesus.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!
Payne #21 — Ps 118:26
Blessed is He who comes in the LORD's name; Payne notes the Hallel psalm was the Passover processional, making the Palm Sunday crowd's use of it a conscious messianic declaration
Psalm 118 was sung at Passover as pilgrims processed to the temple. When the crowd greeted Jesus with these exact words on Palm Sunday, they were identifying him as the expected king coming in God's name — a fulfillment the religious leaders understood immediately.
Jesus, teach me to trust who You are, not just what I feel. Let Psalm 118:26 and Matthew 21:9 deepen my confidence in Your name.
