Lesson 193PassionMessianic Psalm

No Comforters in His Suffering

The psalmist cried out that scorn had broken his heart and no comforter could be found.

Old Testament

Psalm 69:20

Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.

New Testament

Mark 14:34

"My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death," he said to them. "Stay here and keep watch."

Why This Matters

The psalmist cried out that scorn had broken his heart and no comforter could be found. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus poured out His anguish to Peter, James, and John — yet they fell asleep while He suffered alone. The Messiah's deepest agony was met not with comfort but with the solitude foretold centuries earlier.

Reflection

Jesus, thank You for bearing what I could never bear. Through this lesson, grow gratitude that changes how I live.
