J. Barton Payne
Payne #20 — Psalm 118:22–26
Payne's #20 covers the Psalm 118 cornerstone passage; verse 24 ('This is the day the LORD has made') is part of that same psalm cluster applied messianically
The psalmist celebrated the day the LORD had acted decisively — a day of joy and vindication.
The LORD has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.
God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. … Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.
The psalmist celebrated the day the LORD had acted decisively — a day of joy and vindication. Peter at Pentecost declared that Resurrection Sunday was that day: the day God raised Jesus from the dead, exalted Him, and poured out His Spirit. What the psalm anticipated as praise, the apostles proclaimed as history.
King eternal, help me walk in resurrection power today - with joy, endurance, and holy expectation.
