Payne #31 — Isa 49:6
Light to the Gentiles; Payne calls this the clearest statement of universal messianic salvation in the Servant Songs
God told his Servant that restoring Israel alone was too small a task—he would be a light for the Gentiles, bringing salvation to earth's ends.
he says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth."
For this is what the Lord has commanded us: "I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth."
God told his Servant that restoring Israel alone was too small a task—he would be a light for the Gentiles, bringing salvation to earth's ends. Paul and Barnabas quoted this when they turned their mission to the Gentiles. The gospel was never meant for one people only; from the beginning, God's plan was a salvation so vast it encompasses every corner of the globe.
Jesus, send me with Your heart for people. Let Light for the Gentiles move me from admiration into obedience.
