Lesson 83PassionDirect Prophecy

Back to Those Who Beat Me

The Servant in Isaiah willingly offered his back to beatings, his cheeks to those who tore out his beard, and his face to mocking and spitting.

Old Testament

Isaiah 50:6

I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.

New Testament

Matthew 26:67

Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him

Why This Matters

The Servant in Isaiah willingly offered his back to beatings, his cheeks to those who tore out his beard, and his face to mocking and spitting. Matthew records Jesus enduring exactly this treatment—spit on, struck, slapped—after his trial. The Servant did not resist or hide. His willingness to absorb violence without retaliation revealed a strength deeper than any display of power.

Reflection

Jesus, thank You for bearing what I could never bear. Through this lesson, grow gratitude that changes how I live.
