Payne #30 — Isa 42:1–4
Will not shout in the streets; Payne contrasts the quiet Servant with false messiahs who sought spectacle
Isaiah described God's Servant as one who would not shout, quarrel, or raise his voice in the streets.
He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.
"He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets."
Isaiah described God's Servant as one who would not shout, quarrel, or raise his voice in the streets. Matthew saw this fulfilled in Jesus' ministry—he did not seek public spectacle or political rallies. His gentleness was not weakness but the quiet strength of one who knew his mission. The Messiah's power was displayed not in loud demands but in compassionate service.
Jesus, send me with Your heart for people. Let Gentle Servant move me from admiration into obedience.
