Servant upheld by God, Spirit upon him; Payne sees the four Servant Songs as a progressive messianic portrait
This lesson explores how Isaiah 42:1 connects to Jesus.
Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.
"Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations."

Servant upheld by God applied to Messiah in Targum and Midrash on Psalm 2
Isaiah introduced God's chosen Servant, anointed with the Spirit to bring justice to the nations. Matthew recognized this in Jesus—a man empowered by the Spirit at his baptism, who proclaimed God's justice not through military might but through healing, teaching, and sacrificial love. True justice comes not by force but through the Spirit-filled life of the Servant.
Jesus, send me with Your heart for people. Let Servant Brings Justice move me from admiration into obedience.
