Lesson 93Resurrection

Three Days in the Deep

This lesson explores how Jonah 1:17 connects to Jesus.

Old Testament

Jonah 1:17

Now the LORD provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.

New Testament

Matthew 12:40

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Part 2 - Fill In The Blank
Why This Matters

Jonah's three days in the belly of the great fish became, in Jesus' words, a sign pointing directly to his own death and resurrection. Just as Jonah emerged alive after three days in the deep, Jesus would emerge alive from the tomb. What seemed like the end of Jonah's story was actually a rescue—and the same pattern held true at Easter.

Reflection

Jesus, because You rose, my future is secure. Make this truth in Three Days in the Deep reshape my fears and my prayers.
