Why This Matters

Amos prophesied that God would make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight. Luke records that during Jesus' crucifixion, darkness covered the land from noon until three in the afternoon. Creation itself responded to the death of its Creator. The supernatural darkness was a sign that something far beyond an ordinary execution was taking place.

Reflection

Lord Jesus, Your suffering was not wasted. As I read Amos 8:9 and Luke 23:44-45, make me reverent before the cost of my redemption.
