Lesson 59RejectionTypology

Rejected Shepherd

In Zechariah's enacted parable, the shepherd breaks his staff called 'Favor,' symbolizing the end of the covenant relationship.

Old Testament

Zechariah 11:10

Then I took my staff called Favor and broke it, revoking the covenant I had made with all the nations.

New Testament

John 1:11

He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

Why This Matters

In Zechariah's enacted parable, the shepherd breaks his staff called 'Favor,' symbolizing the end of the covenant relationship. John's Gospel summarizes the tragedy in devastating simplicity: Jesus came to his own people, and they did not receive him. The shepherd was rejected by the very flock he came to save.

Reflection

Lord, where others turned away from You, help me draw nearer. Make my loyalty deeper and my worship truer.
