When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."
Isaiah dared to envision a day when God would swallow up death forever. Paul triumphantly declares that this prophecy will be fulfilled when believers receive their resurrection bodies. Death—humanity's oldest enemy—does not get the final word. Through Jesus' resurrection, the ancient promise is set in motion: death itself will be consumed by life.
Lord, the kingdom You promised in Isaiah 25:8 is breaking in through 1 Corinthians 15:54. Make me a faithful citizen of that kingdom today.
