Lesson 42KingdomDirect Prophecy

Victory Over Death

Isaiah dared to envision a day when God would swallow up death forever.

Old Testament

Isaiah 25:8

he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people's disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.

New Testament

1 Corinthians 15:54

When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."

Why This Matters

Isaiah dared to envision a day when God would swallow up death forever. Paul triumphantly declares that this prophecy will be fulfilled when believers receive their resurrection bodies. Death—humanity's oldest enemy—does not get the final word. Through Jesus' resurrection, the ancient promise is set in motion: death itself will be consumed by life.

Reflection

Lord, the kingdom You promised in Isaiah 25:8 is breaking in through 1 Corinthians 15:54. Make me a faithful citizen of that kingdom today.
