Payne #48 — Zech 12:10
Look on the one they pierced; Payne notes the first-person divine speaker makes this theologically remarkable
This lesson explores how Zechariah 12:10 connects to Jesus.
And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict • #59 His Side Pierced
Laetsch — LORD Jehovah speaks of Himself as pierced; 'thrust through' appears 9x in OT
Zechariah described the people of Jerusalem looking upon the one they had pierced, mourning as for an only son. At the cross, a Roman soldier pierced Jesus' side with a spear. What Zechariah foresaw as a moment of future mourning and repentance began at Calvary—a pierced Messiah whose wounds would become the source of grace for all who look to him in faith.
Lord, as I meditate on Your Passion, make me patient in trials and faithful in love.
