Lesson 68RejectionMessianic Psalm

Kings Conspire Against the Lord

The psalmist asked why nations rage against God and his anointed.

Old Testament

Psalm 2:1-2

Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,

New Testament

Acts 4:25-27

You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: "Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one."

Why This Matters

The psalmist asked why nations rage against God and his anointed. The early church saw this psalm fulfilled when Herod, Pilate, the Gentiles, and Israel's leaders united against Jesus. The conspiracy of the powerful against Christ was not a sign that God's plan had failed—it was the very scenario Scripture had predicted. Their opposition was futile; the anointed King reigns regardless.

Reflection

Merciful Christ, guard my heart from bitterness. Let Your endurance in Kings Conspire Against the Lord produce gentleness in me.
