Kings bringing gifts applied to the Messiah; entire Psalm 72 viewed as Messianic in Yalkut
The psalm envisioned a day when kings from distant lands would bring gifts and bow before Israel's ruler.
May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring tribute to him. May the kings of Sheba and Seba present him gifts. May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him.
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
The psalm envisioned a day when kings from distant lands would bring gifts and bow before Israel's ruler. When the Magi—scholars from the East—arrived with gold, frankincense, and myrrh and fell down to worship the infant Jesus, this royal homage began to be fulfilled. Even as a baby, Jesus drew the reverence of foreign dignitaries.
Lord, as I reflect on Kings Bring Gifts, make me steady in faith, humble in spirit, and rooted in Your unchanging identity.
