Lesson 40PassionDirect Prophecy

Crucified with Sinners

Isaiah prophesied that the Servant would be numbered with the transgressors—counted among criminals.

Old Testament

Isaiah 53:12

Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

New Testament

Mark 15:27

They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left.

Why This Matters

Isaiah prophesied that the Servant would be numbered with the transgressors—counted among criminals. At the crucifixion, Jesus was placed between two rebels, literally numbered among lawbreakers. He who had no sin was treated as if he were the worst of sinners, fulfilling Isaiah's words and taking on the full weight of human guilt.

Reflection

Lord, as I meditate on Your Passion, make me patient in trials and faithful in love.
