Prophet like Moses raised up; Payne notes Jewish expectation of a second Moses fulfilled in Christ
Moses was the greatest prophet Israel had ever known—the one who spoke with God face to face.
The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. … I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him.
For Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.' … After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, 'Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.'
Moses was the greatest prophet Israel had ever known—the one who spoke with God face to face. Yet Moses himself said another prophet would come, one in whom God would place His own words. Peter declared in Acts that Jesus is that prophet, the one all Israel was commanded to listen to. And when Jesus multiplied bread, the crowds recognized Him as the Prophet who was to come. Just as Moses delivered Israel from Egypt, Jesus delivers humanity from sin—the ultimate mediator between God and His people.
Lord, give me courage to speak life, mercy, and hope. Through Prophet Like Moses, train my hands and words for Your mission.
