Out of Egypt I Called My Son
Hosea described God's love for Israel as His son, called out of Egypt in the Exodus.

When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.

So was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son."
Why This Matters
Hosea described God's love for Israel as His son, called out of Egypt in the Exodus. Matthew saw this pattern fulfilled in a deeper way when the infant Jesus returned from Egypt after Herod's death. Just as God called His people out of Egypt, He called His Son — the true Israel — along the same path, reliving and redeeming the nation's story.
