Messianically applied in Targum — reviving like grain
Hosea foresaw Israel flourishing like a vine with spreading shoots.

Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
Hosea foresaw Israel flourishing like a vine with spreading shoots. Jesus used similar imagery — a grain must die to bear fruit. His death was the seed that produced the worldwide harvest Hosea envisioned.
